The carport area of a townhouse, the interiors of which we had recently renovated, was the focus of this project. Small in size but challenging nonetheless. The brief called for a complete revamp of the carport area including new rear entry gate, integration of storage for tools and furniture, a solution to the unsightly bins and boundary fence and provision of shade or similar in the adjoining courtyard area.
Our response was to take advantage of the empty spaces and play of light to evoke a sense of drama and theatre. The aesthetics and order of traditional Japanese architecture and garden design were blended with a touch of local outlaw mythology, and a sharply detailed Burmese Teak pergola was suspended over the sunny courtyard.
