As covid set in, our Complying Development project got underway with the installation of an operable louvre roof and renovation of a courtyard in the heart of a garden we completed ten years earlier. This involved the replacement of an L-shaped section of decking at the rear of the house with an engineered concrete slab and new limestone paving, in a French pattern, to create a second outdoor entertaining room beside an existing alfresco area.
The louvre roof provides much needed shade to this corner of the garden that was previously a sun trap in the heart of summer. A perimeter band of decking was retained around the new paved area to help integrate with the existing alfresco deck area.
As the travertine we used around the pool was no longer available we saw the opportunity to move to a softer, tumbled-style limestone with warmer tones. La Roche limestone was the ideal choice and it perfectly complemented the Barnfloor house colour we selected back in 2013. Two sandstone capped bench seats were added, one either side of the glass pool fence, with custom cushions for added comfort. New and renovated outdoor furniture selections, new indoor and outdoor ceiling fans, renovated surface finishes and some fresh planting completed the project.
