In 2016 a large rock-fall event occurred at North Head which led to the partial closure of the spectacular and popular lookouts along the cliff edge.
In 2017 NPWS invited CALDESIGN to undertake landscape concept master planning for the redesign and upgrading of facilities within the National Park's main visitor precinct including ecology, car parking, walking tracks and lookouts.
The plan explored and developed concepts for new pedestrian pathways, a new bus stop, a central hub and grassland, cycle paths, improved vehicular circulation and parking, elevated look-out tracks and shelters, and remodelled cliff-side look-outs including cantilevered viewing platforms to address the site's on-going safety and inherently unpredictable geotechnical challenges.
